Mentoring Matters

Mentoring  •  Caring  • Collaborating

The Mentoring Matters Initiative works with mentoring organizations in DC to increase their capacity and recruit qualified mentors.

We envision a city where every child at risk of not attending college and achieving their full potential will be matched with a caring adult mentor.

This initiative is built on a collaboration between Deloitte LLP, HandsOn Greater DC Cares, and mentoring organizations delivering this service to the youth of DC.  Mentoring Matters brings together over 35 nonprofit organizations engaged in mentoring. We:

  • build their capacity,
  • raise awareness for mentoring, and
  • recruit and engage mentors.

This year we will:

  • Convene the Executive Directors and Program Staff of mentoring organizations for three skills-based training sessions
  • Recruit and place 500 new mentors
  • Host 2 mentoring fair events
  • Provide an online platform for ongoing collaboration and support
  • Raise awareness for mentoring in the community
  • Organize service-learning opportunities for mentors and youth

Volunteers: Become a mentor!  By indicating your interest in mentoring on your profile, we can work together to find the right service opportunity for you. Take a moment to browse our map of all the mentoring programs we work with across the region. If you are not already a member, click here to create a profile. This will take about 15 minutes.

Nonprofits: Recruit mentors, benefit from training, and raise awareness for the cause of mentoring by joining our coalition.

Funding Partners: What issue areas matter most to you?  This initiative is one example of the measurable impact you can have on a cause by partnering with HandsOn Greater DC Cares.  To support this initiative, or discuss how we can craft a program together to benefit your cause, contact us today.
