Volunteer Leadership Trainings

Gain valuable leadership experience through HandsOn Greater DC Cares.
We offer three types of leadership training programs:

1. Flexible Volunteering Calendar Program: Volunteer Leaders
With over 150 Flexible Volunteering projects a month on our calendar, HandsOn Greater DC Cares can’t do this important work without the help of Volunteer Leaders.  Individuals who serve as Volunteer Leaders play a critical role in the success of these projects.  As a Volunteer Leader, you can work at the same project month-to-month or select projects on a more flexible basis. We’ll provide training on how to recruit volunteers, coordinate a project, manage volunteers and evaluate the project’s success.

HandsOn Greater DC Cares offers Volunteer Leader training every other month for individuals who have a profile and have completed our online orientation.  For more information about Volunteer Leader trainings, please contact Matt Crawford.

2. Special Events: Project Leaders and Project Managers
During our 3 annual Special Events, HandsOn Greater DC Cares mobilizes thousands of volunteers and resources on single days.  Volunteer Project Managers and Project Leaders work together to ensure successful projects at project sites through the DC area. Project Managers are responsible for what happens at the entire site, and Project Leaders are responsible for a specific group of 15-25 volunteers at a site completing a particular project.

To find out about the next Project Manager and Leader Training, please contact Matt Crawford.

3. Emergency Events: Volunteer Leaders
Gain leadership experience by becoming a volunteer leader during an emergency or disaster as part of HandsOn Greater DC Cares’ Emergency Preparedness and Response Program. As a volunteer leader, you’ll help coordinate and mobilize HandsOn Greater DC Cares’ 2,000+ emergency volunteers. Please contact Briana Brockett-Richmond for more information.
